Blackhawks pump anything that flows,
regardless of viscosity or composition, and operate independent of vacuum. The all-weather, top-head-drive motors and stuffing boxes are cleanly and safely outside the well or sump.
Because our actuator mechanicals never come into contact with fluids being pumped, Blackhawks cannot and do not exhaust gases into the atmosphere and, by design, cannot introduce oxygen into discharge systems.
The compressed air powering Blackhawk’s pneumatic pumps is expelled above and outside the well or sump and, by design, can never enter the discharge line or gas-collection system.
There is always a column of water in the riser pipe that will prevent well gas from entering the discharge pipe. The non-compressible fluid weighs down on stainless-steel check balls, restricting their ability to open.
It is not possible for the pneumatic air supply line to enter the gas collection system – the two avenues do not meet. The pump can run dry without landfill gas entering the discharge line.
NO AIR IN WELL, SUMP
The all-weather, piston-pump drive motors and their power sources are mounted at surface grade, connected mechanically with high-quality downhole components – a miniaturized version of the oilfield pump jack.
Above the wellhead, the actuator pushes and pulls a durable, flexible drive rod that connects with a reciprocating piston near the bottom of the well or sump.
Below the wellhead, the actuator pulls up the drive rod through the riser pipe, drawing fluid though a strainer into the foot valve. Stainless-steel balls in the reciprocating piston and foot valve open naturally to allow fluid into the piston, then close to prevent fluid from returning. Pumping action lifts fluid up the riser pipe to a discharge tee above the wellhead.
MOTOR ABOVE WELL
Because the drive motor is at surface grade, above the wellhead, installation and maintenance are faster and easier. Power to the pump is direct from surface through the sucker-rod assembly. Actuator servicing occurs above the well or sump. See the installation and operations manuals:

Our top-head, reciprocating-rod drivers are mounted above the wellhead, eliminating air-driven bio-fouling, and are indifferent to high vacuum.
A boon to operators with closed or remote sites not connected to trenched power, Blackhawk’s solar pumps serve a broad range of applications in latitudes as northerly as Toronto and the Great Plains, even in winter.
Pump can run in a dry well with no damage to the pumping system.
All Blackhawk drive motors and downhole components can be installed to 89 degrees.
All drive motors are lightweight and can be removed from the well/sump and serviced without extracting the entire pump system. Because downhole components are identical, actuators can be moved easily from one wellhead to another. Blackhawk’s service exchange program allows customers to ship and actuator back to the factory to be cleaned and refurbished while another pump driver is rotated in, significantly reducing downtime.
Like reliable oilfield pump jacks, piston pumps achieve positive-displacement flow generation through simple reciprocating-piston technologies. Blackhawk has miniaturized and updated the traditional pump jack for a broad range of applications.
